artsy: it’s the remix baby! classic films shot with african images..

Omar Victor Diop and French-American Antoine Tempe, have set out to recreate iconic images from some of Hollywood’s beloved flicks.

In their interview with CNN’s African Voices, the two photographers explained how “the creative process of the series itself is very familiar to the way African contemporary creation often takes place”. Changes and modifications are commonplace when adapting concepts from around the world, tweaking the contexts to fit closer to the African experience, while preserving the spirit of the original story. They named their photographic homage, ‘Onomolliwood’. From the famous bullet dodging Keanu Reeves in the Matrix, to the sophisticated Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the images are quite familiar paying respect to the original, with an African twist to exploit the photographers’ creativity.
