black cowboys + girls in “they die by dawn.” if you’re in new york, you can actually check it out!

“They Die By Dawn,” is a western featuring black cowboys & girls, conceived and directed by Jeymes Samuel of The Bullitts (a collaborative group of artists – both music and film – headed by Samuel).

The all-star cast includes some fan favorites: Jesse Williams, Michael K. Williams, Isaiah Washington, Bokeem Woodbine, Clifton Powell, Rosario Dawson, Giancarlo Esposito, Erykah Badu, and others.

It’s not quite a feature film however, given its length (51 minutes), and I actually expected (and still do expect) a feature adaptation will follow, especially if response to this shorter version is strong.

Based on a series of real-life stories, here’s the synop: “Four outlaws with a bounty on each head, set a date for a shootout in Langston, Oklahoma. The last man takes the collective bounty. Violence and mayhem ensue.”

The film will screen on Feb 27 (at 7:30pm), Feb 28 (at 5:30pm, 7:30pm and 9:30pm), and Mar 1 (at 5pm) at Raw Space Culture Gallery, 2031 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd (between 121st and 122nd). Click here to buy tickets (or you can also pick them up at the door).

The music video for the title track, “They Die By Dawn,” which is embedded below, features the vocal talents of Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def), Jay Electronica, and Lucy Liu.

It actually plays more like a trailer for the film, since it contains only footage from the film, and not the musicians (just their voices).
