cultur.d: conceptual artist and photographer hank thomas willis…

Back in November, I posted about Thomas being one of 16 artist featured at the Studio Museum of Harlem’s “Speaking of People: Ebony, Jet and Contemporary Art.” I just found out (thanks Theo) that I wasn’t the only one to recognize his talent!

Sir Willis was chosen by Beyonce as the artist to represent Black History Month on her site, and he has just been nominated by Mayor de Blasio to serve on New York’s Public Design Commission.

It’s been a long day, so I won’t go into great detail, but they have a beautifully designed page over at Artsy where you can learn more about his story and hang out with Thomas for a while (visually speaking).  I’m working on events in Lax and Chicago, so it’s hectic ’round here, but let me know if you run across any other amazing artists I need to know about.. 😉
