TRADEMARK PIECE: “Solaris mother of pearl cabochon belt.”
THE COLLECTION: “Entitled Out of Eden: I was inspired by the juxtaposition of urban environments and man-made architectural constructs with botany and the organic world. Our label of love fuses timeless design and natural materials with traditional artisanal craftsmanship, while on a deeper level, we’re committed to marrying pret-a-porter with progressive philanthropy.”
WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT?: “All of our ready-to-wear garments are handmade in a social cooperative in Vicenza. Giving enhanced meaning to the ‘Made in Italy’ label, here disenfranchised women, some of whom are physically and mentally disabled, are being empowered through ‘wearable philanthropy.’ They are taught the skill of garment making by those who have chosen to dedicate their lives to social development.
Similarly, our jewellery is produced in a social cooperative in Rwanda. Here, women who survived the genocide many of whom contracted HIV during the conflict through gender based violence, have been given the support to utilize their skills and are rebuilding their lives through dignified enterprise, using beautiful, luxurious materials, challenging the paradigm of the label ‘Made in Africa’.”
IF YOU COULD DRESS ANYONE, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY? “Angelina Jolie: a force of nature in her beauty, but also incredibly socially conscious.”
